The Spectacular Road to Ladakh

I have made several trips to Leh, Ladakh, By flight, by Jeep and by Public Transport. Hopefully soon I will be doing the Manali – Leh route by motorbike soon.

Why do I keep going back to Ladakh?

Here is my answer in Pictures:

Last time round I took the Delhi – Manali – Leh state transport bus. The much derided Tata motors bus huffed and puffed but managed to cross all the high passes and arrive at Leh with safe but tired passengers. And right through the trip I preferred to sit on the roof of the bus and enjoy the grand 360 degrees view of the landscape.

You pass through some extremely photogenic scenery

There are melting glaciers, dangerous curves etc.

The Tang lang La pass – the highest on the route – over 17000 ft

Can any Photographer really do justice to this Magnificent region?

Hi, awesome pictures! We are planning to visit Leh for maybe a week. We will be going from dehli and wonder what the best and safest option would be? Are the roads safe to travel (political, weather and infrastructural conditions)? What would the cost be traveling from Delhi to Leh and how would you do it in the best and safest way? (also where we can get the views you show if possible)Thanks! Best Regards Nick

Hi Nick,Thank you for your appreciation of the photos. You have not given a link to your profile so I am replying to your query here,There are flights from Delhi & Chandigarh to Ladakjh. The best season to visit Ladakh is JUN,JULY and Aug. You get spectacular views of Himalayas when you fly over to Leh. But it realyy doesn’t match up to the experience of reaching Leh by road. You will be crossing some of the highest passes in the word and ride through high mountain plateaus and deep gorges, There are buses from Delhi to Leh – Via Manali. It is a 3day/2n trip. I understand the road conditions have much improved these days and there are plenty of camping sites en route, Buses tickets are cheap may be a few thousand rupees. And of course it is safe. I suggest you go by road to Leh – it gives a chance to acclimatise on the way too and fly back to Delhi later. If you need nore information you can write to me at
