My trip to Masinagudi

Recently spent a weekend in Masinagudi. The first stop in Masinagudi was in Mahindra Resort’s Casa Deep woods courtesy the Nandakumars.

Though the resort itself is good with great ambience and neat rooms it is essentially meant for Corporate Types whose stay is sponsored by their companies. Because the rates for food and beverages are sky high (and the fare not so good).

Moreover, TN government has banned all activities like trekking, safari etc, within the Wildlife reserve. So essentially there is not much to do but loll in the hammocks in the resort.

Being a simple backpacker I checked out the very next day and started inquiring around for an alternate activity.  My friend and I dropped into a Tour Agent’s office and started a conversation and I told him I too am associated with Adreno – an adventure company.

Things took a very positive turn from then on. We were taken to a lovely estate bang in the middle of the wildlife park whose owner was in the process of setting – up a Nature resort and was in need of professional advice. Naturally we stepped in as consultants. We met the gracious owner the next day for dinner and talks and he treated us with a lavish dinner party and also invited us to stay overnight in his spacious bungalow. No need to say we grabbed the op.

Now for the exciting details:

The estate is huge (around 400 acres) and the resort itself has fully fitted spacious tents. There also tree houses overlooking an artificial lake meant for use by the wild animals. This is the greatest USP of the resort. As we were having dinner we spotted scores ( yes, scores) of Deers,Boars,Nilgais,Bisons etc. heading to & fro the lake from right where we were sitting. Just to mention the entire campsite is surrounded by electrified fencing.

And a midnight safari ride through the estate rewarded us with more sightings of wildlife. I have never sighted so much of wildlife in such a short span of time.

The crowning moment of my trip was when we spotted a leopard stalking a bunch of deers. Couldn’t get a decent snap, unfortunately, as another noisy jeep came round the corner and the leopard vanished into the bushes,

This is an ideal place for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, nature walkers, meditators etc.

Do get in touch for more details …not to be missed trip.
